Amirudin fires back at Sanusi over slanderous remarks

Caretaker S'gor MB to sue Kedah counterpart, accusing him of trying to deflect attention from his own controversies

5:30 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will be initiating legal action following allegedly slanderous statements issued by his Kedah counterpart, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman, said that Sanusi had made the allegations during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) talk in Jitra last night.

“(Sanusi’s) speech was clearly slanderous and is an attempt by a desperate person who wants to divert attention from accusations against him regarding the rare earth elements mining scandal, which he has failed to address factually,” he said in a statement today.

Stressing that he denies the accusations and allegations made by Sanusi, Amirudin pointed out that he has already extensively addressed the claims during the state assembly last year and this year, as well as during a parliamentary session on March 1.

“I have discussed this with my lawyers and will begin the process of taking legal action against (Sanusi) for his slander,” Amirudin said.

Following the PN talk yesterday, PAS mouthpiece Harakahdaily reported that Sanusi, who is also PN’s elections campaign director, had “exposed” a scandal involving Amirudin and Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

According to the report, Sanusi claimed that the businessman wished to undertake a RM10 billion project at the Klang River by obtaining 242.8ha of land while involving a company under the state-owned Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated.

He also alleged that the state government would lose about RM180 million from the project. – August 4, 2023
