New term, same commitment: Chow back to work as Penang CM

Having been sworn in for second term, he is ready to steer Penang's future

1:16 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has officially clocked into his office today after his swearing-in ceremony yesterday.

On Facebook, Chow, who is also Padang Kota assemblyman, shared images of him arriving at his office in George Town and resuming work at his desk.

“Good morning, Penang. A new term, (but) the commitment to continue driving this state towards excellence remains,” he wrote.

The post was filled with netizens congratulating Chow and wishing him well in the role.

Yesterday, Chow was sworn in as Penang chief minister for a second term before the Penang governor, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

He will lead the unity state government in Penang after the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance won 29 out of the 40 seats in the state polls last Saturday.

Chow holds the Padang Kota seat for a third term after securing it with 8,261 votes and a majority of 7,116.

He ran against Perikatan Nasional’s H’ng Khoon Leng, who obtained 1,145 votes. – August 14, 2023
