KUALA LUMPUR – Mohamed Fadzli Hassan is expected to be appointed as the new Kelantan menteri besar, while Mohd Nassuruddin Daud will be his deputy.

A Kelantan PAS leader told Scoop that the names have been decided after meetings with party leaders and the central committee, which were also attended by its president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, yesterday.

Fadzli, 55, is a former Kelantan exco for human development, education, higher education, science and technology, while Nassuruddin, 58, was an exco for islamic development, da’wah, information and regional relations.

“Though I don’t know who the third candidate is that will be presented to the sultan, I believe the top leadership will present to the sultan that Fadzli is the best menteri besar candidate based on his experience as a technocrat.

“Deputy menteri besar candidate Nassuruddin is from the religious faction of the party. This is seen as the best combination of a technocrat and a religious figure for introducing and implementing the best policy for the Kelantan people.

“However, this matter needs to be approved by the sultan of Kelantan first. If it is rejected, the party leadership will have to find other candidates.

“We hope that the people in Kelantan exercise patience. What is important is that the appointed menteri besar and deputy will be fresh faces; no more Datuk Ahmad Yakob or Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.”

Tomorrow, possibly, the people of Kelantan will have a new menteri besar.”

Last week, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that Kelantan is expected to have a new menteri besar and deputy menteri besar with a combination of a religious figure and a technocrat to fill the positions.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new menteri besar will be held at 3pm tomorrow. – August 14, 2023
