KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has initiated legal action against the government and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). 

The move comes on the heels of a ruling by the Kuala Lumpur High Court, which vindicated PN president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin against what secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin alleged to be a campaign of political revenge.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Hamzah said the court ruling, delivered today, has unveiled the alleged tyranny and manipulation exercised by the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) government. 

“They deliberately manufactured false charges, propagated slander, and exploited their authority to target leaders of the Perikatan Nasional coalition, of which Bersatu is a key component,” read the statement.

“The Kuala Lumpur High Court, in its verdict, not only discredited the charges levelled against Muhyiddin, but it also flagged them as legally flawed, baseless, and in violation of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“The court also ruled that the charges were a violation of the use of the court process.”

In light of the court’s decision, Hamzah further appealed to the attorney-general to re-evaluate the ongoing prosecutions of PN and Bersatu leaders with the aim of retracting charges that are deemed politically motivated. 

Earlier today, Muhyiddin succeeded in his attempt to quash all four bribery and abuse of power charges against him, amounting to RM232.5 million in connection with the Jana Wibawa project.

The verdict was read out by judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin at the high court here today. – August 15, 2023
