Suhardi Alias is new Sports Commissioner

He replaces Ibrahim Yusoff who joins the Road Transport Department

KUALA LUMPUR — National Sports Council (NSC) deputy director-general Suhardi Alias has been appointed as the new Sports Commissioner, replacing Ibrahim Yusoff.

Suhardi will take charge of his new role effective today as he has been offered a  two-year contract.

His predecessor, Ibrahim, joined the Road Transport Department (RTD) as its new deputy director-general in management on June 23.

“On behalf of the Malaysian Sports Commissioner’s Office, we expressed our heartfelt congratulations to Suhardi Alias on his appointment as the new Sports Commissioner effective today.

“We wish you luck,” the Malaysian Sports Commissioners’ Office announced on Facebook today.

Suhardi began his tenure at the NSC in 1991 and has a vast experience of 32 years in sports management and science.

He previously held the position of NSC deputy director-general of sports development from 2019 and is also a member of the National Sports Association Rating Committee with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) in 2009.

At the same time, Suhardi chairs the NSC Anti-Corruption Committee and is involved in many anti-corruption programmes with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Integrity Institute (IIM).

Suhardi also works together with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to curb corruption in sports, match-fixing, and sports betting. — August 15, 2023
