Release of Elmina crash victims’ remains delayed amid ongoing identification

DNA testing still ongoing, earliest completion date set for Mon, says IGP.

3:10 PM MYT

KLANG – The remains of the 10 Elmina plane crash victims will only be released from the hospital’s forensic department by next Monday at the earliest, as the identification process is ongoing.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the identification process and DNA tests involving the victims’ next-of-kin are still being conducted at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here.

He added that the Chemistry Department has to conduct DNA matching with more than 200 samples of human remains that were collected at the crash site, as well as 22 DNA samples from the victim’s next-of-kin.

Razarudin said police and hospital personnel will inform the families as soon as the procedures at the Forensic Department are completed.

“We have already met the victims’ families and next-of-kin to advise them not to wait near the Forensic Department.

“We don’t want anyone to get sick in this hot weather. We will contact them as soon as the procedures are completed at the Forensic Department.”

He said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department will assist in funeral arrangements, including sending the remains back to the respective hometowns.

The top cop added that entrance and exit routes to Elmina Interchange from both directions of the Guthrie Corridor Expressway have been reopened at 3pm today.

The crash, which occurred at about 2.50pm yesterday, resulted in 10 casualties, of which six were passengers and two crew members onboard the Beechcraft 390 (Premiere 1) flight.

The remaining two victims were a delivery rider and an e-hailing driver passing by when the plane crashed.

The flight crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and did not make any mayday calls prior to its sudden crash. – August 18, 2023
