KUALA LUMPUR — Pelangai state assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun, one of 10 victims in the tragic plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam, has been buried.

Johari, who was also Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman, was laid to rest around noon at the Raudhatul Sakinah Muslim burial ground in Batu Caves, Selangor.

Among prominent attendees include Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail who were present along with more than 250 people who came to pay their last respects to the late assemblyman.

Earlier, the 53-year-old’s final rites and prayers were performed at Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahimiah in Klang after his family had collected his remains from the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR).

The prayers for Johari was lead by his own son and was accompanied by Wan Rosdy, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan and Selangor Islamic Department (JAIS) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.

According to reports, over 100 of Johari’s relatives and members of the public had gathered at the masjid to perform the ‘solat jenazah’ (funeral prayers) for the state assemblyman.

Rosdy, who described Johari as a good friend and colleague, had previously said that the latter was behaving strangely the day before the plane crash which was carrying Johari as a passenger.

Hussein has since confirmed that according to completed identification processing of the remains found at the accident site, the crash resulted in 10 victims – two crew members, six passengers, a motorist and a motorcar driver.

It is understood, funeral arrangements for the nine victims will be held in stages.

Besides Johari, the other victims include pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim; passengers Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Mohamad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali.

Other casualties of the crash are Foodpanda delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh and Grab car driver Sharipuddin Shaari.

Yesterday, the remains of Muhamad Hafiz, 32, was buried at Masjid Al-Huda Muslim burial ground near his hometown at Taman Sidam Kiri, Sungai Petani, Kedah. 

At approximately 2.50pm on Thursday, the Beechcraft 390 private plane crashed about two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang after its departure from the Langkawi International Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) later said that the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident. — April 20, 2023
