Jin Wei falls victim to Se-young’s dominance

Mixed doubles Kia Meng and Pei Jing through to next round after trashing opponents 21-4, 21-6

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s women’s singles player, Goh Jin Wei, saw her World Championship campaign come to an end after being defeated by world number one, An Se-young of South Korea, in the second round today.

The world number 35 could not stop Se-young’s dominance as Jin Wei lost 21-12, 21-14 in straight sets at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, it was a walk in the park for national mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing, who barely broke a sweat in their first-round match against the Maldivian pair, Hussein Zayan Shaheed-Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq.

Malaysia’s world number 21 pairing made light work of their opponents, needing only 21 minutes to finish off their opponents in straight sets, 21-4, 21-6.

In the women’s doubles, Anna Cheong Ching Yik and Teoh Mei Xing faced resistance from American twin sisters, Annie Xu and Kerry Xu, before winning the match 21-14, 21-18 to qualify for the next round.

Ching Yik and Mei Xing’s teammates, Vivian Hoo and Lim Chiew Sien, are also through to the next round after defeating Moa Sjoo and Tilda Sjoo of Sweden, winning 21-14, 21-12 in straight sets. – August 22, 2023
