Hadi summoned by Bukit Aman over campaign speech in Johor

Hadi had previously handed over to Bukit Aman and the MCMC, the mobile phone belonging to the operator of his official Facebook account, who is also his press secretary.

KUALA LUMPUR — Bukit Aman has summoned PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to provide his statement regarding probes into a campaign speech he had delivered in Simpang Jeram, Johor. 

In a Facebook post today, PAS assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Sulaiman said that the Islamist party leader, who is also Marang MP, is ready to cooperate with investigations into the matter. 

“Earlier this morning, we were contacted by authorities from Bukit Aman (who wanted to) obtain information from (Hadi) regarding a police report lodged against his campaign speech in Simpang Jeram, Johor. 

“This matter has already been conveyed to (Hadi) and he expressed his willingness to provide his full cooperation to the police,” Syahir said. 

He added that Hadi had previously handed over to Bukit Aman and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) the mobile phone belonging to the operator of his official Facebook account, who is also his press secretary. 

“In this matter, (Hadi) puts his full trust into the professionalism of the police and the MCMC in conducting their duties and the investigation.” 

Last Saturday, Hadi reportedly claimed that the way the nation grants pardons is not in accordance with Islamic teachings. 

While delivering a speech at a Perikatan Nasional campaign event at the Bakri PAS headquarters, Hadi said that under Islamic principles, the party that has a right to grant a pardon is a victim’s family members, not the Pardons Board. — August 28, 2023
