PAS’ former Bukit Pasir rep Najib Lep joins Amanah

Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu says former Johor exco member has potential to empower, strengthen party

8:00 AM MYT

JOHOR BAHRU – Former Bukit Pasir assemblyman and former Johor exco member Najib Lep, who was stripped of his PAS membership last year, has officially become a member of Amanah.

Najib’s membership form was submitted to Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu during the Simpang Jeram by-election campaign ceramah in Muar yesterday evening.

Mohamad expressed the party’s openness to welcoming Najib into Amanah, acknowledging his potential contributions to the party’s empowerment and strengthening.

Mohamad also hinted at further additions to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which will be announced during the Pulai Parliamentary by-election campaign ceramah later today.

“It is their right to choose. Najib has chosen Amanah, and we hope that he can provide valuable insights for the efforts in this by-election,” Mohamad said.

He said Najib’s formal acceptance will take place at Taman Uda Utama Recreation Park in Perling later this evening.

In the previous Johor state election, Najib’s PAS membership was revoked after he chose to contest as an independent candidate when his name was not included in the candidate list.

However, Bukit Pasir was won by the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, who also defeated a PAS candidate and three other contenders.

Back in April, it was reported that Pagoh Umno had accepted Najib into their ranks, and he subsequently brought in more than 60 of his supporters to join the party.

Pagoh Umno division chief Ismail Mohamed revealed that Najib’s application to join the BN linchpin party was accepted on May 31 last year. – September 3, 2023
