BUKIT JALIL – The Le Tour de Langkawi today announced Bubbles 02 oxygenated mineral water as a sponsor for this year’s race, scheduled from September 23 to September 30.

The sponsorship deal, which is worth RM800,000, includes 96,000 bottles of oxygenated mineral water for the cyclists throughout the Tour.

At the same time, Bubbles 02 will also sponsor the Most Combative Rider Award.

The award is intended to recognise the efforts of cyclists who demonstrate the utmost sportsmanship by assisting their teammates at every stage of the race.

National Sports Council (NSC) director Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said this award will be reintroduced to give recognition to the “unsung heroes” of the teams.

“We are reintroducing this award to make the race more interesting.

“At every stage, we will give the award to one cyclist. The winner will receive RM1,000 and a plaque,” he said at a press conference here today.

For the record, the Most Combative Rider Award was last presented during the 2017 edition of the race, when Malaysian rider Loh Sea Keong won it twice during Stages 2 and 4. He also bagged the award twice in the 2016 edition.

Also present at the press conference was Bubbles 02 Sdn Bhd’s executive director, Ariffin Marzuki.

“I wanted to be involved in the LTdL after watching the launch ceremony.

“When we contacted the NSC, we determined that the Most Combative Rider Award was the best fit for us, as we promote a healthy lifestyle and our product will help re-energise the cyclists after a long race,” said Marzuki.

On Wednesday, LTdL announced RM1.3 million worth of sponsorship from local sportswear brand Pace and Chinese firms TikTok and Zhejiang Dahua. – September 9, 2023
