KUALA LUMPUR – The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Executive Board has proposed Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh for membership in the IOC.

This was tweeted by the international sports governing body on its official Twitter account, @iocmedia.

“The IOC EB (Executive Board) proposes 8 new IOC members (4 women, 4 men) for election to the 141st IOC Session: Yael Arad, Balázs Fürjes, Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta, Michelle Yeoh, Michael Mronz, Petra Sörling, Jae Youl Kim, and Mehrez Boussayene,” said the post.

The members’ role is to represent and promote the interests of the IOC and its Olympic Movement in their respective countries.

If elected, Michelle will be the sole representative from Malaysia.

Former Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar was Malaysia’s last representative.

Tunku Imran is now an honorary member of the IOC.

In April, the Ipoh-born Michelle made history when she became the first Asian to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as the multi-dimensional heroine Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once in the 95 years of the award show’s history. – September 9, 2023
