‘Embankment slope collapse at flood works area may have caused LPT1 landslip’

Works minister has ordered immediate repairs after expressway damaged

KUALA LUMPUR – A landslip that resulted in cracks along the westbound segment of the East Coast Expressway, LPT1, is believed to be due to an embankment slope that collapsed where flood mitigation work was being carried out.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said he had already directed the Highway Authority (LLM) and those involved in the mitigation work to immediately carry out the repairs at the location of the landslip, which caused cracks from KM118.2 to KM117.8 of the road.

“I have contacted LLM director-general Sazali Harun and need a full report to be prepared and presented immediately, and to monitor the area where the landslip had occurred to ensure there would be no similar mishap in future,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said any contingency plan or mitigation carried out at landslip sites is continuously monitored to safeguard road users. 

Nanta also advised those intending to use the route to avoid or postpone their travel, or temporarily use alternative roads to reach their respective destinations.

Earlier today, the LPT1’s concession holder, ANIH Bhd, confirmed a landslip had resulted in road cracks at KM118.2 to KM117.8 westbound on the expressway in Temerloh near here.

Accordingly, the concessionaire closed the emergency and left lanes of the route and activated a contra route from KM116.5 to KM119.4. – September 10, 2023
