Crying in the Rain: Sabahans do love our monarchy – JD Lovrenciear

Queen’s video thanking those waiting in harsh downpour to greet the royal family should silence divisive politicians, JD Lovrenciear writes

IT is downright humble, honest, and touching to view the video clip (FMT, September 9) of our present queen sharing her sincere, heartfelt thoughts and feelings over how our Sabahans braved the storm to greet our king and queen on their maiden, marathon road adventure. 

Indeed, what our royal family witnessed should silence our diabolic, divisive politicians for good. 

For too long, we Malaysians, especially in Semenanjung, have cried out hopelessly and helplessly against politicians who continue to exploit 3R issues for political mileage. 

Hiding behind the federal constitution, such recalcitrant politicians have constantly used it against the three main races in the Semenanjung – Malays, Chinese, Indians. 

The Sabahans themselves – living in a territory where none of our sultans reside, and where even a palace is non-existent, have demonstrated undeniably that Malaysians love their monarchy (and that includes our trust in the sultans of the respective states we originate from). 

However, the truth is trust, love, and respect are intertwined and anchored on hope. 

Today, there is a singular hope that symbiotically connects East and West Malaysia. 

That hope is to see a permanent end to racism and a final blow to all forms of religious fanaticism, extremism, and divisiveness. 

All Malaysians love, trust, and respect our monarchy system. And so, our hope has rightfully come to face in the direction of our rulers and the presiding Yang di-Pertuan Agong. 

The message echoing from the Sabahans lining the highway in the rain and storm resonates throughout Malaysia. 

All right-minded citizens with a conscience will easily recognise and value our Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who did not hesitate to share that video clip that truly says “Malaysian Malaysia” is there to blossom for all citizens, king, and country. 

But our biggest enemy is the wayward politicians and politicians without the will and courage who exploit and prevent a united, fair, just, and progressive, caring, compassionate nation from rooting. 

A salute to our brothers and sisters in Sabah. Meanwhile, perhaps the song “Crying in the Rain” may best encapsulate our hope. – September 11, 2023
