Govt now worse than colonisers: Muhyiddin cries selective 3R prosecution

The former prime minister said that he has been made into a target of police investigations and criminal charges merely for voicing out on issues plaguing the Malay and Muslim community

12:02 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) has reiterated his claim of being a “selective prosecution” victim, accusing the government of using 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues as an “excuse to silence dissent.”

Addressing the Dewan Rakyat today, the former prime minister said that he has been made into a target of police investigations and criminal charges merely for voicing out on issues plaguing the Malay and Muslim community.

“The government must stop its selective investigations and charges (made with) 3R as an excuse just to silence dissent.

“As a Malay leader, am I considered a criminal just for voicing out on matters important to the Malays and Muslims? Since when can a Malay leader not talk about such matters?

“British colonisers left our nation a long time ago, but it looks like the policies implemented by the government now are worse than those applied by colonisers,” Muhyiddin said during his debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review.

He also alleged that government figures have yet to be investigated for supposed 3R offences despite multiple police reports being made against them.

Without referencing specific lawmakers, Muhyiddin said: “Leaders on that side have issued evil statements that clearly fan the flames of racial sentiments, but they have not been investigated, even though hundreds of police reports have been lodged against them.”

Yesterday, Muhyiddin was questioned by police regarding the issue of his “political fatwa” allegedly claiming that it is “haram” to vote for PN opponents in the Pulai parliamentary by-election last week.

Inspeictor-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the investigation paper into Muhyiddin will be completed in a week’s time before being submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. — September 13, 2023
