River of Life Fun Run to debut on car-free Sunday

Around 500 people set to join inaugural event

9:18 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The inaugural River of Life Fun Run is set to make its debut on Sunday, marking a significant step in promoting Malaysia’s commitment to achieving a carbon-free future.

In a statement, organiser Zamara Biz said the endeavour aligns with the sustainable development goals, particularly the aspiration of transforming Kuala Lumpur into a sustainable urban hub by 2050.

In partnership with the Youth and Sports Ministry, Zamara Biz added the race will also coincide with the city’s car-free Sunday, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability.

“Participants are strongly encouraged to utilise public transportation to reduce traffic congestion in the vicinity.

“Approximately 500 participants are expected, and the race’s meeting point will be between the Central Market at Jalan Hang Kasturi and the Agrobank at Leboh Pasar Besar.

“Beyond the goal of fostering sustainability, (the fun run) aims to strengthen domestic collaboration, paving the way for globally attainable efforts,” read the statement.

The race route will be centred around the River of Life, situated in close proximity to Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, where the Klang and Gombak rivers converge.

Apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, Zamara Biz added that the strategic location serves as an educational platform, highlighting the vital importance of preserving and nurturing local rivers.

Themed “Impian Kita Bersama” (Our Dream Together), the race spans a 6.5-km route, promising a diverse array of breathtaking views. — September 14, 2023
