Anwar’s CNN interview to air at 1am Saturday

Prime minister articulates vision of his administration, addresses pressing matters

NEW YORK – Moderation, Madani and Sanusi: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on these topics in an interview which will be aired on Saturday at 1am Malaysian time.

Recorded on Wednesday at Malaysia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations at 43rd Street here, the 30-minute interview will see the prime minister speaking about the challenges of his 10-month administration and explain his vision of a Madani administration which includes good governance and social justice.

Christiane Amanpour has interviewed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on several occasions but the interview airing on Friday will be the first where she will address him as prime minister. – Screen grab pic, September 21, 2023

The interview also saw Amanpour asking Anwar about the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as the spate of police action against several politicians, including Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for breaches against 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.

Anwar is in New York primarily to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) where he will deliver his maiden address as prime minister at 10am on Friday (10pm Malaysian time).

He is also attending a string of bilateral meetings with other world leaders as well as the business community, including a roundtable with Fortune 500 companies.

Other than CNN, Anwar is also being interviewed by Bloomberg, an illustration of the vast interest of the international media towards him and his premiership which according to observers was 25 years in the making.
