KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia secured their first silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou as national wushu exponent Tan Cheong Min finished second in the combined nanquan and nandao events today.

The 26-year-old scored a total of 19.419 points, finishing behind gold medalist Chen Huiying of China, who secured 19.590 points.

At the same time, Uzbekistan’s Latisheva Darya claimed the bronze with a score of 19.403 points.

After accumulating 9.703 points in the nanquan event earlier today, Cheong Min earned 9.716 points in the nandao event held in the afternoon.

Her triumph marked a significant achievement for Malaysia’s wushu team, ending a 13-year medal drought in the quadrennial games.

The last time the wushu national squad won an Asiad medal was in 2010 when Chai Fong Ying secured gold in the combined taijiquan and taijijian events in Guangzhou, China. – September 26, 2023
