Transport Ministry announces expansion of subsidy assistance, which now includes students from various educational institutions

10:12 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Subsidy assistance for domestic flights between the peninsula and East Malaysia has been extended to students in education ministries’ polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation colleges, and teacher training institutes, said the Transport Ministry today.

In a statement today, the Transport Ministry said students will be able to check their eligibility on the government’s website, as the subsidies are meant for those travelling between the peninsula and Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

For now, it is open to students who are registered for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Eligible students can apply for the subsidy when they purchase their flight tickets from airline companies such as Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and Firefly), AirAsia, Batik Air, and MY Airline, through their respective websites.

“The airline company will then issue a RM300 digital voucher to the qualified students as a credit shell,” the statement read.

At the same time, the ministry said that if the purchased ticket is less than RM300, the balance will be carried forward for the next purchase. The last day to redeem the digital voucher is December 31.

However, students are still allowed to use the subsidy to purchase their air tickets after December 31.

Meanwhile, students who are not eligible can appeal to the Higher Education or Education Ministry through their respective institutions.

The subsidy scheme was made available to public university students in August. – October 6, 2023
