Stadium Corp received 24 bookings to host School Sports Day at national stadium

The Youth and Sports Ministry says the initiative is to promote grassroots development at school level

4:23 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Stadium Corporation has received a total of 24 bookings from schools nationwide to organise sports days at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil so far.

In a statement today, the Youth and Sports Ministry said the applications were opened in August.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (P) Bandaraya, Kuala Lumpur became the first school to organise its annual sports day yesterday.

“In line with Minister Hannah Yeoh’s aspiration, the initiative to promote sports through the utilisation of sports facilities under the Stadium Corporation focuses on grassroots development at the school level.

“It allows students to experience running at the national stadium, inspiring them to become athletes,” the statement added.

On July 25, Hannah announced Stadium Corp’s initiative to give a special offer to all schools to use the national stadium for free for two years, specifically for the organisation of sports days.

Stadium Corp also offered schools free use of two other venues, Jalan Duta Sports Complex and Bukit Kiara Sports Complex. — October 7, 2023
