Subang Airport runway closed due to skidded aircraft

Firefly says all airline operations set to resume 5pm onwards

3:25 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has temporarily closed a runway at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang to deal with a skidded aircraft, believed to be a Royal Malaysian Air Force Beechcraft plane.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, today, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the aviation authority had issued a notice calling for a three-hour closure.

“We wish to inform that CAAM has issued a temporary closure of the runway at Subang Airport from 1.15pm to 4.15pm. The runway is being closed to facilitate the removal procedure for a skidded aircraft.

“Glad to share that no one was injured during the accident,” MAHB said in the post, adding that the terminal remains unaffected and open.

According to a post on X by user @abdulazimazhar, an air force plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport after its landing gear failed to extend.

Meanwhile, in a post on Facebook, Firefly Airlines said all airline operations are expected to resume at 5pm onwards.

“Kindly be informed that Subang Airport’s runway is temporarily closed to facilitate safety inspections and investigations. All airline operations, including Firefly, are expected to resume at 5pm onwards,” the airline said.

At 5pm, MAHB said on X that the runway closure has been extended to 6pm as per the latest notice issued by CAAM. – October 16, 2023
