Denmark Open: men’s doubles duo Yew Sin-Ee Yi reach quarterfinals

Pair outperforms their Japanese opponents in 46 minutes, scoring 21-17, 22-20

8:11 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s men’s doubles shuttlers, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, secured a well-deserved spot in the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open last night.

The ninth-ranked duo dispatched their 17th-ranked Japanese opponents, Akira Koga and Taichi Saito, in 46 minutes, scoring 21-17, 22-20 at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense.

The victory against the Japanese was their second straight win in two meetings, where they last defeated them at the India Open opening round in January, also in straight games, 21-15, 21-15.

At the Super 750 event, Yew Sin-Ee Yi are now geared up for a clash against hosts Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen in the last eight later today.

They join fellow compatriots, men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia, in their bid for a spot in the semifinals tomorrow.

World number four Aaron-Wooi Yik are poised to face off against China’s He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu, while 11th-ranked Zii Jia is set to lock horns with Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto. – October 20, 2023
