KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor have secured the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang national champion title at the Malaysia Esports League (MEL23), which ended today.

Adding to their glory, a Selangor player was also awarded the Most Valuable Player, an award that was introduced in this edition across all game titles at the state, national, and open series levels.

The MEL23 event witnessed competition across three game categories – PUBG Mobile, eFootball Mobile, and Mobile Legends, all held at ESI Hub in Puchong.

Previously, the PUBG Mobile and eFootball competitions had already taken place on October 14 and 15, also at ESI Hub.

In PUBG Mobile, Kuala Lumpur emerged as the national champion, with the MVP title going to a player from the same team.

In the eFootball Mobile category, Pahang seized the championship, and the MVP honour was bestowed upon a player from Johor.

“The successful conclusion of MEL23’s state and national levels showcased a remarkable display of young esports talents,” said Esports Integrated (ESI) chief executive Ahmed Faris Amir.

“It is truly inspiring to see the healthy competition displayed by these players in representing their states and federal territories.

“Prestigious national competitions like this can help more new talents excel in the world of esports.”

MEL23 continues with the MEL23 Open Series, featuring fresh game titles like eFootball on consoles and Counter-Strike 2, scheduled from November 3 to 11.

The event saw a total prize pool of RM317,400 distributed among the six contested game titles.

MEL23 stands as a competitive and inclusive esports platform that champions local grassroots talent, organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry, ESI and esports associations of 16 states and federal territories. – October 22, 2023
