Tourism minister questions Bersatu MP about his corruption charges while attempting to portray himself as a ‘saint’

KUALA LUMPUR – Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan saw a “golden opportunity” to pass judgement on the behaviour of others despite his own shortcomings, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Tiong, who issued a lengthy statement and a video of him having fun, also questioned the Bersatu MP about his corruption charges while trying to portray himself as a “saint”.

“Wan Saiful apparently doesn’t respect other cultures, religions, and races, or he is unable to be open and inclusive. If he continues like this, he should leave politics altogether.

“I humbly suggest that he first focus on his charges. Explain to the people how so much money went into his accounts, as reported by the media.

“Don’t distract us from the main issue by bringing up irrelevant ones,” he said.

Tiong added that he reserves his right to take legal action if Wan Saiful continues to accuse him of being drunk.

“If race and religious issues are still being played up, it will have adverse effects on our country, resulting in Malaysia being rejected by foreign investors and tourists.”

Yesterday, Wan Saiful reprimanded Tiong, saying that getting drunk in public was unbecoming of a minister, irrespective of his religion.

He added that Tiong’s explanation showed he was not fit to be a minister and used it as a “political tool”.

Tiong previously defended his alcohol consumption and dancing during a festival with Pelangai residents, saying that it was not wrong because he is not a Muslim.

“I’m not Muslim. What’s wrong if I drink alcohol? I drink, I play with children like a ‘crazy’ person. What’s wrong with that?”

On October 16, Mas Ermieyati sarcastically reprimanded Tiong, whom she said was unsuited for the tourism, arts and culture portfolio, as it appeared that he wanted to introduce Malaysia by getting drunk and dancing in public. – November 2, 2023
