KUALA LUMPUR – The decrease in the percentage of voter turnout and the increase in the cost of performing the haj pilgrimage are among the issues that will be discussed in Parliament today.

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament’s official website, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim (Arau-PN) is scheduled to ask the prime minister the reason for the drop in voter turnout in the 13th, 14th, and 15th general elections and the Election Commission’s efforts to address the issue during the question-and-answer session.

Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (Batang Lupar-GPS) will also ask the prime minister about the factors that contribute to the increase in the cost of performing the haj, as well as the new requirements and eligibility that have been set.

Aside from that, Mohd Hasnizan Harun (Hulu Selangor-PN) will ask the defence minister if the government plans to review the retirement after 21 years of service for members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, given that they are still young and have responsibilities to their families.

The question-and-answer session will be followed by a committee-level debate on Supply Bill 2024.

According to Parliament’s calendar, the debate on the bill at the committee level will last 12 days, until November 27.

This Dewan Rakyat sitting, which began on October 9, will last 32 days. – November 8, 2023
