Selangor portal to record students’ good grades for future initiatives: Amirudin

MB says it will also be used to monitor their career development after graduation

5:25 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government is looking to develop a student-profiling portal that will gather personal and academic details on higher education students, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

In tabling the state’s Budget 2024 today, Amirudin said that the compiled details, which are expected to include information on students’ backgrounds and academic achievements, will then be used to implement educational programmes, among others.

The data will also be used to monitor the career development of students once they have graduated from educational institutes.

The initiative will be spearheaded by the Education Standing Committee and the Darul Ehsan Student Community (Komdes).

While Amirudin did not specify the allocation dedicated to the initiative, he said that the state government has allocated RM24.9 million for higher education and programmes to develop the state’s higher education institutes, which will also benefit Selangor-born students residing overseas.

He said one of the programmes expected to be held regularly next year is #KitaSelangor Jelajah Mahasiswa, the first phase of which will involve a series of roadshows to public universities nationwide to showcase the state’s education initiatives.

Amirudin also said that the book voucher initiative will be expanded to double the amount of recipients across public universities and private higher education institutes after 1,000 students benefited from the vouchers this year.

Last year, the vouchers cost the state government RM200,000. A total of RM400,000 has been allocated for the initiative under the state’s 2024 budget.

For the 2024 budget, Amirudin has proposed a RM2.53 billion spending plan, of which RM1.33 billion (52.6%) is for operational expenditure and RM1.2 billion (47.4%) is for development expenditure.

Selangor’s budget for 2023 was RM2.45 billion, of which RM1.25 billion was for operational expenditure and RM1.2 billion was for development expenditure. – November 10, 2023
