Selangor allots RM100 mil for pump infra under raw water scheme

State also apportions RM40 mil for Darul Ehsan Water Scheme under its 2024 budget

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor state government has allocated RM100 million for the continuation of pump infrastructure projects under the Raw Water Assurance Scheme, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. 

In tabling the state’s Budget 2024 today, Amirudin said that another RM40 million has been set aside for the Darul Ehsan Water Scheme, which channels RM5,000 monthly to state citizens who fulfil certain requirements. 

The state government has also spent about RM60 million to overcome pollution in water sources, such as by directing funds to biological or bioremediation treatment services to conserve water quality in Sg Gong and Sg Sembah. 

The money also went to the implementation of a pump infrastructure project at Sg Selangor and the Sg Semenyih. 

The project is expected to be completed at the end of this year and operational by the first quarter of 2024. 

Besides that, works on water sources will be financed by the federal government in the form of grants estimated to be worth RM1.8 billion, Amirudin said.

He added that currently, the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry is in the procurement stage to secure the appointment of a contractor. 

Amirudin, however, did not provide details regarding the specific project for which the ministry is in the process of appointing a contractor.

“The Sg Rasau Water Supply Scheme is underway and will be a water source with an about 1,400 million litre-a-day capacity. 

“The development of the Sg Langat water treatment plant, which is being carried out under Air Selangor Sdn Bhd’s allocation estimated to be worth about RM3.5 billion, is about 10% completed.” 

Amirudin noted that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.  

Meanwhile, the state administration is looking to focus on increasing water supply reserves to the targeted 15%, with supply reserves as of June 30 coming up to approximately 13.6%. 

For the 2024 state budget, Amirudin has proposed a RM2.53 billion spending plan, of which RM1.33 billion (52.6%) is for operational expenditure and RM1.2 billion (47.4%) is for development expenditure. – November 10, 2023
