Flash flood hits Kulai hard after downpour

MetMalaysia warns of heavy rain in nine states until 10pm tonight

KUALA LUMPUR – Flash floods struck Kulai, Johor, this evening following heavy rains and strong winds.

A Johor community group shared a video on Facebook  showing rising waters at the Bandar Indahpura roundabout as a few cars attempted to brave the flood.

Another Facebook user, Man Long shared dash cam video from his vehicle driving slowly behind a lorry through the flood before the Bandar Indahpura flyover.

Astro Radio Traffic in a tweet warned motorists of an hour-long crawl from Saleng to Bandar Indahpura due to the flash flood. 

“It will take about an hour from Saleng to Bandar Indahpura because of the flash flood. Traffic is also congested in the opposite direction from Kulai,” it said. 

A TikTok user, @anastalib, also shared a video of traffic in a crawl at Kulai as cars drove slowly through a flooded road.

Today, MetMalaysia issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds in nine states, including Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Sarawak, until 10pm.  – November 17, 2023
