PAS urges probe into J-Kom staffer’s claim of ‘Mr H’ conspiracy

Party also denies involvement in Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff’s resignation

3:02 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has called for an investigation into the allegations made by Community Communications Department (J-Kom) junior staffer Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani relating to a “Mr H” and a “cruel conspiracy” to slander former director-general Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff.

The party’s information chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, also reiterated that the opposition is not involved in Agus’ resignation despite being blamed for having a hand in it.

“If Wahab is telling the truth, it proves that there is an element of foul play in government agencies, especially (regarding) political appointees. If otherwise, an action must be taken by the government to clear the agency of such accusations.

“Initially, I was not going to comment on this matter as I saw it as a personal issue that should be dealt with in private. However, after listening to the press conference (by Agus and Wahab) yesterday, it turns out that the matter should be dealt with, legally,” he said in a statement.

“Wahab (yesterday) claimed that he was instructed to record the conversation (he had) with another individual holding a position in J-Kom, and the video was (said to be) edited to include humiliating dialogue.”

During the press conference yesterday, Wahab said the video call had been recorded to frame Agus, upon instruction by one “Mr H”, whom he alleged works for J-Kom.

Agus said he filed a police report on the incident, and instructed his lawyers to take necessary follow-up action.

Agus, who was appointed by the unity government as J-Kom director-general at the Prime Minister’s Office in February, tendered his resignation on Thursday, saying he received an offer for a different job, and not due to any pressure.

His resignation followed criticism of J-Kom’s lacklustre performance of its mandate to disseminate government information, and after the leaked clip of the video call surfaced. – November 18, 2023
