Selangor aims for 100% 5G coverage by 2025: exco

Currently, 4G network in state at 99.87% and 5G at 94.3%

SHAH ALAM – Selangor is targeting 5G network coverage throughout the state by 2025, state Islamic and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said.

He said the state government is actively collaborating with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to realise this goal.

“As of today, 4G network coverage in Selangor is 99.87%, and for 5G network, it is 94.3%. The state government will work closely with the MCMC to ensure 100% 5G network coverage by 2025.

“We will ensure that areas with rural populations, such as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, also have access to 5G broadband networks,” he told a press conference here today.

He said in line with the aspiration to make Selangor a smart state, the state government is targeting to increase internet speeds to 100Mbps by 2025.

Fahmi also announced that 35 new Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) will be established by the MCMC in all state constituencies in Selangor from the second quarter of next year.

“Currently, there are 48 PEDi across the state that use the Smart Selangor Wifi network,” he added. – November 20, 2023
