China Masters: Aaron-Wooi Yik, Wei Chong-Kai Wun progress to second round

They will face China’s Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi, Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana

6:43 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will spearhead Malaysia’s challenge in the second round of the Super 750 China Masters on Thursday.

The world number two pair did not have any issues dispatching countrymen Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, 21-15, 21-15 in 33 minutes.

The Malaysian pair, who won the Denmark Open crown last month, will either play China’s Tan Qiang-Zhou Hao Dong or newly crowned Kumamoto Masters champion He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu next.

Accompanying them into the second round are Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun who defeated world number 29 pair Jin Yong-Na Sung-seung of South Korea.

The world number 20 Malaysians were taken to three sets by their opponents before triumphing, 21-11, 15-21, 21-17.

They will face the winner of the clash between tournament eighth seeds Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi of China and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana of Indonesia.

Unfortunately, two other Malaysian pairs could not follow them to the second round.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani were defeated by Japanese pair Akira Koga-Taichi Saito, 21-23, 24-22, 21-19.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were sent packing by Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari of Indonesia, 21-18, 21-18, in 40 minutes. – November 21, 2023
