Follow safety procedures, MoE advises institutions after bomb scares

This follows bomb threats at several international schools yesterday

6:04 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry has called on all institutions under it to adhere to established safety procedures, after several international schools received bomb scares.

The ministry also said it viewed the issue seriously, and would always prioritise the safety of teachers and students under its purview.

“All educational institutions under the MoE are asked to obey safety procedures which have been set. Any safety threats have to be reported immediately to police and the ministry.

“Institutions must also obey orders by the authorities,” it said in a statement.

Yesterday, several international schools received bomb threats via email, which led to some of them contacting police and evacuating their premises.

Subsequently, the Selangor police’s bomb squads conducted searches in the affected schools in the area, confirming that the incidents were hoaxes.

Earlier today, police said they had received two more reports on the bomb scare, from international schools in Kajang and Penang.

As of 2pm today, police said a total of 37 false bomb threats had been received nationwide, according to Bernama. – November 22, 2023
