8:30 PM MYT

Ā

KUALA LUMPUR – Heavy rain and flash floods hit the Cheras Highway, causing traffic congestion from the city centre in the federal capital.

At 7.15pm, a post by Astro Radio Traffic on X (formerly Twitter) showed water levels rising on Cheras Road.

X user @hazghn also reported on floods in the same area.

ā€œBe careful, whoever is driving right now towards the Cheras area. Heavy flood (is) everywhere,ā€ he said.

Another X user, @Shahrul12l4n, said in a 6.52pm post that Taman Melawati, the Middle Ring Road 2 and Pandan Indah were all experiencing flash floods, but that Pandan Indah was the worst.

He added that Cheras is flooded ā€œliterally everywhereā€.

At 5.50pm, the Meteorological Department issued a warning on Facebook that thunderstorms and strong winds were expected to hit 12 states until 9pm tonight.Ā

This includes Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya  and Selangor.

Other affected areas include Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong and Temerloh), Kedah (Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim) and Gua Musang (Kelantan).

In Sabah, rural areas in Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, Keningau and Tambunan will be affected, as well as Pantai Barat, Sandakan (Tongod) and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat). – November 23, 2023
