Damok’s Moto3 season ends after suffering fracture in right hand

The 22-year-old faces a season-ending blow after a crash at Valencia GP, ending the year with five points in the bag

KUALA LUMPUR — The country’s most promising Moto3 rider Muhammad Syarifuddin Azman has to forego his hopes of competing in the final round of the World Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) in Valencia after suffering a fracture in his right hand.

The 22-year-old Moto3 rider, who is better known as Damok, said medical tests conducted this morning found a fracture after losing control and crashing during the second free practice session at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Spain on Friday.

“Naturally I am disappointed because I was hoping to race and do my best during the final race of the year.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity and experience gained. I will now continue the recovery process when I am back in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

The mishap would mean an end to the season for Damok, who currently holds five points from 20 races, including the Valencia GP’s World Championship, this season.

Damok who is representing Team MT Helmets—MSI, ended the first and second practice sessions on Friday in 15th and 23rd positions after clocking 1m 40.722s and 1m 40.183s respectively. — November 26, 2023
