Rapid KL cites ‘technical difficulties’ amid netizens sharing clips of emergency services’ presence

11:33 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Public transportation users are up in arms over delays affecting the Kelana Jaya LRT line, with displeased commuters directing their anger towards rail operator Rapid KL.

At 10.47pm this evening, Rapid KL took to its social media channels to announce a halt in train services at the Dato Keramat LRT station due to safety concerns.

Feeder buses have been provided between the Damai, Dato Keramat and Jelatek stations with a frequency of up to 20 minutes, depending on traffic flow.

Earlier on, in postings at around 9.30pm, Rapid KL said that alternative train services have been activated at the line due to “technical disturbances” at the Dato Keramat LRT station.

It added that the LRT train from stations at Gombak and Putra Heights will turn back at Setiawangsa and Pasar Seni, respectively, while feeder trains will be provided between KLCC and Pasar Seni as well as between Setiawangsa and KLCC.

“We apologise for any difficulties. Thank you for your patience,” Rapid KL added.

In response, netizens vented their frustrations over extended waiting times, with one Facebook user named Alwin Chan claiming that it took him one hour to get to the Pasar Seni station from Abdullah Hukum.

“(I) waited longer, then (there was) no announcement (on) alternative (trains) at all. Finally, I decided to take the MRT to Plaza Rakyat. Waiting again to exchange to Awan Besar,” the user added.

Another user, Diva Pora (@IjahEmoTemo) said: “As usual…Rapid KL without any plan at their best! I’ve been stuck in a train in KLCC for 15-20 minutes before there was an announcement for passengers to disembark like WHAT AT THIS TIME ARE U KIDDING ME?!! Wasting so much time! Urgh!!!”

Rapid KL also advised another user to take alternative forms of transport if they’re in a hurry.

While some Facebook users shared photos of the large crowd at the Kampung Baru station, X users also posted videos of an ambulance as well as Fire and Rescue Department personnel at the Dato Keramat station. – December 1, 2023
