Apex court reschedules hearing for Lokman Adam’s appeal against one-month jail

This comes after lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informs court representation letter submitted to AGC yesterday

11:49 AM MYT

PUTRAJAYA – The Federal Court has rescheduled the hearing of Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam’s appeal against his one-month jail sentence.

Lokman was sentenced on July 15, 2021, after Kuala Lumpur High Court found him guilty for intimidating a key witness in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He was then granted a stay from serving his jail sentence pending his appeal.

The Court of Appeal, on October 26 last year, has also upheld the high court’s decision and also granted another stay of execution to Lokman pending his appeal in Federal Court.

The Federal Court, today, was initially scheduled to hear Lokman’s appeal.

The judges have decided to reschedule the hearing after lawyer Shafee (left), who appeared for Lokman (right), informed the court that the latter had submitted a representation letter to the AGC yesterday, which was confirmed by the DPP. – Azim Rahman/Scoop pic, December 5, 2023

However, the panel of three led by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah, joined by Federal Court judges Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Datuk Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal, allowed the postponement today.

This is after lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who appeared for Lokman, informed the court that the latter had submitted a representation letter to the Attorney-General’s Chamber (AGC) yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar then confirmed that the AGC has accepted the letter and it needs time to consider it.

He also said that the instruction received today is to not object to the postponement.

The court then fixed February 14 next year to know the status of the representation letter. – December 5, 2023
