Over 37,000 fines settled in first two days of Madani govt’s first anniversary event

Police traffic chief, however, advises public not to wait for discounts to clear summonses

KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 37,242 fines have been paid off during the first two days of the One Year with the Madani Government programme, celebrating its first anniversary in administration. 

The police’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said 12,300 traffic offenders successfully cleared their summons between December 8 and 9. 

While the programme was welcomed by the public, he also advised people against only waiting for the offer to be introduced to pay their fines. 

“The campaign to reduce compound summons by up to 50% received an encouraging response, in addition to the police having the opportunity to assist the community in channelling information more clearly. 

“The police advise the public not to wait until discount offers are announced to clear their outstanding summons, and to obey traffic rules and laws,” he said in a statement. 

Azman added that enforcement actions will be continuously implemented to ensure the safety of all road users. 

He further explained that the fines were also settled through the police’s MyBayar portal and application, which held a record of 87.4% settlements through the platforms. 

Azman, who is also Sarawak police chief, said the police fielded 39 officers across 14 booths to facilitate the fine payments, where a special booth is also prepared for the elderly and disabled. 

Counters were operating from 9am to 6pm, but were ultimately extended until 9pm to give the public more space to settle their summons, he added. 

The One Year with the Madani Government programme is scheduled to run from December 8 to 10 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. – December 10, 2023
