KUALA LUMPUR – The criminal case involving a special officer to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been postponed to a later date.

Amirudin’s press secretary, Jay Jay Denis, was due to appear at a court in Alor Gajah today over tweets posted last year involving Melaka governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

In a Facebook post last night, Denis said he was informed the case had been postponed.

“Thank you to all for your support, prayers, and solidarity. I hope no one else falls victim to such cases and that Malaysia can continue to mature and not fall victim to the dictates of certain individuals,” he said.

On Tuesday, Denis said he had been notified to be present at court today to face charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code on statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, each carrying a potential imprisonment term of two years and one year, respectively, along with a fine of up to RM50,000.

It was reported that he was arrested and taken by three officers from the Alor Gajah police headquarters to Melaka on October 9 last year, where he was questioned over his tweets.

He was released on the same day after questioning, assisted by lawyer Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, among others.

In the alleged tweet, posted on September 6 of last year, Denis claimed that Ali had been in an official car, accompanied by around eight police outriders and three escort cars, that blocked traffic on the Sprint Highway, allowing the Melaka governor’s vehicle to make a U-turn.

In a second tweet, he noted that the person who later emerged from the car was Ali, outside a restaurant where he had attended a family dinner. – December 14, 2023
