No fireworks? No problem! People still flock to KLCC Park

This despite park not holding New Year’s Eve countdown for second straight year

KUALA LUMPUR – People continue to gather in the areas surrounding the KLCC Park, despite the decision not to hold any fireworks displays or a New Year’s countdown party.

A 16-second clip on X, formerly Twitter, shared by a user with the handle @FarEast_Travels shows a sea of people at the park, just outside the entrance of the Suria KLCC mall, in the vicinity of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

A huge Christmas tree, which was put up for the Christmas celebration last week, was also seen in the clip.

“Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At KLCC Park and Petronas Towers,” the post read.

On Thursday, KLCC The Place posted on its Instagram that there would be no fireworks or New Year’s Eve party at the venue.

“The last months of 2023 have been challenging for so many across the globe.

“In solidarity with everyone going through unimaginable challenges and difficult times, KLCC The Place will not be hosting our usual year-end celebrations with a countdown concert and fireworks,” it said in the post.

However, in the caption, it said that the Twin Towers would be lit up at midnight as a symbol of “our shared journey and hopes for the coming new year”.

For the second consecutive year, the group overseeing the management of the Twin Towers and Suria KLCC, among other attractions, has announced that there will be no New Year’s countdown celebration at its premises.

Last year, the cancellation was attributed to persistent natural disasters, nationwide floods and various other challenges. – December 31, 2023
