Only scheduled appointments allowed before ruler begins serving as Agong

KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has decreed that he will not grant an audience until January 31.

He will begin serving as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 31.

“From today onwards until I take my oath as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, I will not be accepting any more requests for an audience with me.

“During this time, I wish to spend quality time with my family, before undertaking this enormous responsibility and trust,” he said in a statement today.

He said he would not accept any appointments, barring those that have been scheduled.

However, he will continue his weekly audiences with the Johor menteri besar and the state government.

Sultan Ibrahim was elected as the upcoming 17th Agong last October 27, with a term of five years.

He is set to succeed Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Meanwhile, Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah will be deputy Agong at the same time. – January 6, 2024
