High jump athlete faces two-year ban for doping

Adamas imposes move after prohibited class S.6 stimulant, sibutramine, was discovered in their sample

3:35 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Anti-Doping Malaysia (Adamas) imposed a two-year ban on a high jump athlete for using prohibited substances during the Malaysia Athletics Federation Track and Field Championships in February last year.

The banned substance discovered in the athlete’s sample was a class S.6 stimulant – sibutramine.

In a statement, Adamas declared that the substance used by the athlete violates the regulations of the World Anti-Doping Code.

“The doping control testing process and analysis, conducted in accordance with the 2021 Adamas Anti-Doping Rules and international standards, were confirmed by the Anti-Doping Laboratory in Doha, Qatar.

“Upon receiving the results, we promptly informed the athlete about the violation through the first notification and charge notice.

“Following a thorough review, the Malaysian Anti-Doping Hearing Panel determined that the athlete had indeed violated the Adamas Anti-Doping Rules 2021.

“Consequently, the athlete has been suspended from all sports participation for two years, starting from June 2, 2023, until June 1, 2025,” the statement read.

Adamas has also granted the athlete an opportunity to submit a written appeal by January 24th. – January 10, 2024
