It’s official, PKR’s Sangetha confirms appointment as PKA board member

Party’s Women vice-chief says she sees move as part of Fadhlina Sidek’s effort to empower women

KUALA LUMPUR – PKR Women vice-chief Sangetha Jayakumar has officially confirmed her appointment as a member of the Port Klang Authority’s (PKA) board of directors.

Just days ago, she said she did not receive any official confirmation regarding her new role even though fellow party member Fadhlina Sidek congratulated her on social media.

“I see this appointment as a form of recognition of Fadhlina’s efforts to strengthen women’s empowerment.

“I accept this appointment with a sense of responsibility and see it as an opportunity to continue to lift, empower and strengthen the agenda and commitment of the Madani government,” she posted on her Facebook page.

Her appointment has been criticised as a “political appointment” as she is also the daughter of former PKR vice-president and Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

The PKA is currently chaired by DAP’s former Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Critics have previously highlighted that such appointments contradict Pakatan Harapan’s past stance, emphasising the need to eliminate the practice of rewarding politicians and their associates with positions as a form of loyalty.

Established on July 1, 1963, PKA is a statutory corporation mandated to assume control of Port Klang from the Malayan Railway Administration.

This establishment aligns with the government’s policy to incorporate private sector management principles and discipline into government-controlled businesses nationwide. – January 11, 2024
