FAM scores big: football body donates nearly RM100,000 to save Malayan tiger

Funds from national team’s ticket sales for three matches last year

4:19 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) presented a mock cheque worth RM99,845.00 to the Wildlife and Parks Department (Perhilitan) for the conservation of the Malayan tiger.

The cheque presentation ceremony was witnessed by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, FAM deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff, and Perhilitan deputy director-general for operations Datuk Hasnan Yusop.

In a statement, the sports ministry said that the donation collection resulted from the national football team’s ticket sales from three matches held between October and November 2023.

“For each ticket purchased for a Harimau Malaya match, RM1 will be contributed to the conservation of the Malayan tiger.

“Since the initiative was launched in March of last year, we have raised a total of RM131,408.00 from ticket sales across six Harimau Malaya matches.

“The collaboration between the sports ministry and FAM is proof that both the ministry and association emphasise the importance of protecting our nation’s wildlife, especially the endangered Malayan tiger.

“This is our main mission for now,” read the statement.

Malaysia, who ended a 42-year wait to qualify for the Asian Cup on merit, will begin their Group E campaign against Jordan on January 15, followed by clashes with Bahrain on January 20 and two-time champions South Korea on January 25. – January 12, 2024
