Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi dump Malaysian pair out in quarter-finals

9:38 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Independent men’s doubles players Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have been knocked out of the Malaysia Open after losing to Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the quarter-finals at the Axiata Arena today.

The Malaysian pair were outclassed, losing 21-15, 21-9 in straight sets.

“We lost in the first three shots, our opponents broke what we are good at.

“They broke our strategy, we tried to play a different style of play but it did not work. We could not counter them,” Ee Yi told reporters after the match.

Yew Sin said they started the game well but along the way, their opponents figured things out.

“The Japanese were able to control the game very well.

“They did not give us a chance to attack and our defence was not working,” he said.

“I’m not satisfied, I’m disappointed with our performance today.

“We wanted to go further than this. However, I will acknowledge this is a good start to the year,” said Ee Yi.

The world number 12 pair’s next assignment will be the India Open starting on Tuesday where they have been drawn against the same opponents from today. – January 12, 2024
