KUALA NERUS – The Terengganu Football League (TFL) is conducting a comprehensive investigation on a fight between NAG FC and KESA FC that resulted in an individual being seriously injured yesterday.

Its president Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said an in-depth investigation will be carried out by examining a complete report from the match officials and the security team on duty at the match, which was played on the synthetic pitch of the Terengganu State Sports Complex in Gong Badak.

Hishamuddin, who is also state Youth Development, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman, also assured that the organisers will take the matter seriously and take strict action against the parties involved, including the football clubs.

“This incident is very shameful because the goal of sports is to strengthen brotherhood, not to fight a rivalry.

“Even if a sport involves combat such as muay thai, silat or karate… it has its own rules. At the end of the match, whoever wins or loses still maintains a sense of brotherhood.

“We will look into this incident by handing over the investigation mandate to the TFL Disciplinary Committee to look into the report before it is finally decided upon by the Terengganu State Football Association,” he told Bernama.

In the meantime, he also expressed sympathy for the victim who was seriously injured in the head and face as a result of being attacked in the brawl.

Hishamuddin said the league apologised to all affected parties and said it would strengthen security protocols in every football event organised in the future.

Kuala Terengganu deputy police chief Supt Wan Mohd Zaki Wan Ismail said he received a report regarding the ‘foot-brawl’ last night.

He said the investigation will be conducted according to Section 146 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Yesterday, a video lasting two minutes and 42 seconds went viral on social media showing the brawl during a football match at the Terengganu State Sports Complex in Gong Badak. – January 13, 2024
