Shah Alam High Court schedules hearing to decide Kedah MB's bid to shift case from Selayang sessions court

9:20 AM MYT

SHAH ALAM – The high court here has set February 1 to hear Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s application to transfer his sedition case from the Selayang sessions court.

Sanusi’s lawyer, Hasshahari Johari Mawi, said the defence will respond to the affidavit filed by the prosecution; meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Datuk Masri Mohd Daud confirmed this as well.

The application was filed on January 15 and submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers the following day.

Sanusi was charged with uttering seditious words regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the setting up of the unity government during a ceramah in July last year.

The Jeneri assemblyman was accused of committing both offences at Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kg Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11.

Both charges were framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law, which provides a maximum fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both, if convicted. – January 24, 2024
