Tamil music maestro Ilayaraja’s daughter Bhavatharini dies at 47

She breathes her last after courageous battle with chronic illness

11:22 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – It is a sad day for the Tamil music industry as Bhavatharini, the daughter of legendary music composer Ilayaraja, passed away yesterday in Sri Lanka after battling a chronic illness.

It was understood that Bhavatharini, who is also the eldest sister of ‘“GM King” Yuvan Shankar Raja, was undergoing treatment in Sri Lanka. She was 47 years old.

According to media reports, Bhavatharini travelled from India to Sri Lanka for treatment.

However, despite receiving Ayurvedic treatment for five months, her health did not improve. Her body is scheduled to be transported to Chennai tomorrow.

Bhavatharini was a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry as she sang in over 30 films, contributing her voice to numerous popular songs.

Making her debut as a playback singer in the film “Rasayya,” she achieved recognition when the song from the movie became a massive hit.

She also sang in many musical compositions by her father and brother, and she also collaborated with artists like Deva and Sirpi.

She also won a national award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in a song from Bharathi’s film, where she sang alongside Ilaiyaraaja.

Her untimely death has sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment world. – January 26, 2024
