Mohd Irwan takes helm as Bank Rakyat’s new chairman

Appointment follows his role as acting chairman since Nov 2022, with confidence in his leadership qualities, extensive experience

KUALA LUMPUR – The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry has appointed Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak as the new chairman of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat), effective today.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the appointment is based on his leadership qualities and extensive experience during his role as acting chairman since November 1, 2022.

“Kuskop is confident in his qualifications, experience, and credibility to carry out the responsibilities and support Bank Rakyat’s mission and vision in continuing to aid the cooperative and entrepreneurial ecosystem in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” he said in a statement today.

Irwan was appointed as a director of the board of Bank Rakyat on July 24, 2020. He has over 21 years of experience in litigation, corporate and company law, and compliance management.

Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Hanis Osman said the management committee and all employees of Bank Rakyat welcome the appointment of Irwan as its new chairman.

“Through his extensive experience, he can lead the implementation of the 2024 business plan and long-term strategic plan.

“This will place Bank Rakyat on the right path to achieve sustainable performance while delivering the best customer experience,” he said. – February 2, 2024
