SANDAKAN – A father and son were detained by the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for allegedly accepting up to RM10,000 in bribes from applicants of a People’s Housing Programme (PPR) scheme.

They were detained between 3am and 4am today at a house in a residential area here.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16 (a) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said several more arrests are to be expected and asked those who had become victims of the syndicate to assist the MACC in its investigation

Separately, a source said the father is in his 40s while the son is in his 20s.

They had allegedly charged a certain amount to PPR applicants while promising successful approvals .

They had also promised applicants additional incentives, such as housing equipment, if the applicants were to bring in more people to apply for the PPR scheme under them.

“The bribes were received via cash, which was then deposited into the bank account of the father’s wife,” the source said. – February 2, 2024
