Local brand Cheapreme takes chance to promote design under their Bateeq collection, urges people to grab it 'before extinction’

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Damansara MP Tony Pua may add “fashion influencer” to his resume, as his unique collared t-shirt choice to Bukit Aman today has inspired a brand to promote a look-alike piece online.

In a quote tweet under a post of Pua today, online apparel brand @CheapremeBrand took the opportunity to advertise an inspired cartoon dinosaur graphic button-down shirt, named after the DAP man.

“The new Bateeq Collection has just been added! Limited time before extinction – The Tony’s Dino,” the post said.

The shirt has both short and long-sleeved versions, priced at RM225 and RM266, respectively. As of press time, the discounted prices are RM170 and RM185.

It should be noted that while it bears a striking resemblance to Pua’s polo tee, it is not an exact copy of its design.

The dino tee caught traction online, with several netizens pointing out its cute design, and desire to own a similar piece.

“The police can’t get angry if (one) wears a dinosaur shirt,” Twitter user @23Potteh said.

“Did he pick up his son’s shirt by accident,” quipped user @wikiat.

“Colourful dinosaurs are (Pua’s) spirit animals! I like,” @KlutzyKucing commented.

Asked about his adorable piece earlier, Pua simply replied “Nice right?”, without elaborating on the reasons behind his choice.

Pua wore the tee after being summoned by the Bukit Aman police headquarters here to present himself as part of an investigation into his alleged seditious social media posts about former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sentence reduction. – February 5, 2024
